About the Holy Quran
The Holy Quran is a collection of divine revelations given to the Holy Prophet Muhammad (sa) over a span of twenty-three years. It is the sacred scripture of Islam, providing laws, commandments, and moral guidance for Muslims. Additionally, it presents a comprehensive religious philosophy. The Quran is originally written in Arabic.
Apart from its primary name, the Quran is also referred to by several other titles, including:
- Al-Kitab (The Book)
- Al-Furqan (The Discrimination)
- Al-Dhikr (The Exposition)
- Al-Bayan (The Explanation)
- Al-Burhan (The Argument)
- Al-Haqq (The Truth)

Surahs and Verses
The Holy Quran is divided into 114 Surahs (Chapters), each containing multiple Ayahs (Verses). In total, the Quran consists of 6,348 verses. The length of Surahs varies, with some being only a few lines long, while others span multiple pages.
- The longest Surah: Surah Al-Baqarah (Chapter 2) with 287 verses
- The shortest Surah: Surah Al-Kauthar (Chapter 108) with four verses (including the Tasmia)
The Quran’s text has remained unchanged for over 1,400 years, as God Himself promises its protection:
“Surely it is We Who have revealed the Exposition, and surely it is We Who are its guardians.” (15:10)
Contents of the Holy Quran
Muslims believe the Quran is the Word of God, containing complete guidance for humanity. It primarily discusses God, His attributes, and mankind’s relationship with Him. Additionally, it includes:
- Directives for believers
- Historical accounts of prophets and past nations
- Arguments supporting Prophet Muhammad’s (sa) prophethood
- Promises of rewards for the righteous and warnings for disbelievers
